Our Grand Marshals
This year, the Daisy Mountain Veterans honor the 20th Anniversary of Operation Red Wings, the most highly decorated small team action in Naval history.
On June 28, 2005, a four-man SEAL team was on a mission in the Kunar Province, Afghanistan to capture or kill a high-ranking Taliban target-Amah Shah.
The SEAL team consisted of Sonar Technician 2nd Class (SEAL) Matthew Axelson, Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class (SEAL) Danny Dietz, Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class (SEAL) Marcus Luttrell and was led by (SEAL) Lt. Michael P. Murphy.
After the mission was compromised, a fierce fire fight with one rescue helicopter shot down, 11 Navy SEALs and 8 Army Night Stalkers had lost their lives:
Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class (SEAL) Marcus Luttrell was the only one to survive Operation Red Wings.
The story of Operation Red Wings is recounted in the book “Lone Survivor” written by Marcus Luttrell and Patrick Robinson.
A behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of “Lone Survivor” entitled “Will of the Warrior” presents interviews with the families, actors/director and Marcus Luttrell.
A movie by the same name was written and directed by Peter Berg in 2013.
The Daisy Mountain Veterans invite you to join us as we honor the 20th Anniversary of Operation Red Wings with the families, based on availability, as our Grand Marshals at this year’s parade.
